Volunteering PDF Print E-mail
We all think about being successful and making money. However, it is important to think of those who need our help. Many organizations are in dire need of volunteers. They need our help in furthering their cause. These organizations can include churches, hospitals, and charities, among other things. In addition to helping them, we are helping ourselves at the same time. Our service improves these establishments which better our communities. Plus our good work can drastically improve our confidence and self-esteem. It is never wrong to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Have you ever lost a loved one to an illness? It can make you feel torn up inside. To think this horrible disease took away such a vibrant individual can be too much to bear. It can make you feel helpless … but your not. You can help others who are still living by volunteering. Why not help your local Meals on Wheels program deliver food to senior citizens. You could also join a local Alzheimer’s Association chapter. There are many great organizations you could help out in memory of a lost loved one.

Do you wish that people would become more environmentally friendly? Why not volunteer to be a part of a local organization that is fighting for better recycling standards in your area. Maybe they go out and clean local neighborhoods on a regular basis. This will make you feel better about yourself and where you live. It could also lead to new friends and contacts you otherwise wouldn’t have met.

Does your church need younger people to attend mass? Why not start a youth group within your school? You and a couple of friends could invite those who are interested in learning more about your faith. All of you could attend service together each week. This would increase awareness and attendance for the church. It may also lead to more donations and a younger audience.

Have you ever seen The Salvation Army ringing bells around Christmas? They also offer a wide range of services including soup kitchens, shelters, and rehab centers for local citizens. Unfortunately, most people don’t think of them any other time of the year. Why not lend a hand and help out their already short staffed centers? Contributing your time will open your eyes to the great things this organization sets out to do. It will also give you the opportunity to help those who are in extremely tough situations.

Are you currently looking for a job? If so, volunteering for a company you want to work for may be your ticket to getting their attention. Think about it. You volunteer to help them with a big project or event. They are thrilled to have free help. Already you’ve made a good impression. If you follow through with hard work, the bosses will notice this. When they have a job opening, they will think of you first. There are many situations where this has worked for people. Go for it.
