For clear sinuses and good immunity PDF Print E-mail
Question : I HAVE been having a runny nose for the past few months. It always feel so stuffed up, especially in the morning. Can you tell me what supplements or vitamins I may need to get rid of my chronic complaint and improve my health?
Answer : IT looks like you are suffering from sinusitis. It refers to an inflammation of the mucous membrane that lines the sinus of the skull. Sinuses are located close to the nasal cavities and also near the ear. Therefore, a sinusitis infection will travel from the mouth, nose and throat along the mucous membrane. A person who is suffering from sinusitis may experience a severe headache and the nose may be blocked on the affected side. Other symptoms are bad breath, upper jaw pain, fatigue, thick and coloured mucus from the nose. You may even have a fever, cough and a sore throat if it gets worse.
Good immunity is the best way to fight sinusitis, and lessen the allergy and virus that contribute to a runny nose. Consider taking a zinc supplement containing vitamin C to boost the immune system. Supplement your diet too with Vitamins A, B, C, and E. The herb echinachea is known to enhance the immune system by stimulating the production of macrophages, the white blood cells that fight infection. It also has anti-viral and natural antibiotic properties.
Garlic, turmeric and horseradish in a supplement can be taken by those having chronic sinusitis. It is effective in treating throat and upper respiratory tract infections. Horseradish produces a volatile oil that works as nasal and bronchial dilator. Turmeric is a strong anti-inflammatory agent that is useful for treating nasal congestion problems.
Finally, you should avoid common food allergens such as milk, eggs, corn and peanut butter, and caffeinated and sugared drinks. Also, ensure your place is dust-free and clean. An optimal immune function requires a well-balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate rest and eight glasses of water daily. Do remember to include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your daily diet, as they are needed for good health and vitality.
